We are delighted to welcome you to the Leicester Teaching School Alliance (LeTS), based at Rushey Mead Teaching School. In 2011, Rushey Mead School was one of only 100 schools nationally to be designated to become a National Teaching School. This status, awarded only to Outstanding Schools, means that together with an Alliance of Strategic Partners, Rushey Mead Teaching School has responsibility for leading a ‘self- improving school system’ in the local area and beyond; it has accepted a collective responsibility for the performance of the schools within the Alliance, not just its own.
Teaching Schools and their alliances are charged with initiating self-improvement in the following areas:
Already a National Support School, Rushey Mead Teaching School had a long standing tradition of leading on these areas. Executive Headteacher, Carolyn Robson CBE, is a National Leader of Education and has been deployed in a number of schools to support their development. Similarly, the Alliance has many strong LLEs and SLEs who have all contributed to the improvement in outcomes for those young people attending the schools where their support has been implemented. The successes enjoyed by schools working collaboratively with each other have been wide ranging and are testimony to the ideology of a ‘self-improving’ model.
Intent on expanding its capacity as well as maximising its potential for impact, LeTS was a founder member of EMTSA, the East Midlands Teaching Schools Alliance. Its members are all prominent Teaching Schools who themselves have realized that self-improvement does not only come from collaboration between schools, but also between Alliances of schools. EMTSA has spent this year looking at common core offers, at how best the phase 1 Teaching Schools can support subsequently designated Teaching Schools as well as inviting key speakers to attend its meetings for question and answer opportunities.
Leicester Teaching School Alliance (LeTS) is not only committed to collaboration on a local level but its Strategic Partners are also members of Challenge Partners, a group of over 170 schools in the country who believe that school improvement lies within collaborative groups.
